Delete your Votspot account

You can delete your Votspot account and its associated data at any time, from within the app. This page explains how to do it, what gets deleted and what is retained.

How to delete your account

The process runs inside the Votspot app (Android, or your browser at app.votspot.com) while signed in:

  1. 1 Sign in to Votspot with the account you want to delete.
  2. 2 Open the Profile tab.
  3. 3 Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account, below the sign-out button.
  4. 4 Enter your password to confirm it is you, and tick the confirmation checkbox.
  5. 5 Tap Delete my account permanently. Deletion runs immediately: there is no grace period and no way to recover the account.

Before you start

To protect organisations and votes in progress, the app will not delete your account while any of these apply. Resolve them first:

  • You are the only administrator of an organisation. Promote another member to administrator, or delete the organisation.
  • You have an active paid plan in an organisation you administer. Switch it to Free so no further charges are made.
  • You have active votes. Close or cancel them.
  • You have active events. Close or cancel them.

What data is deleted

Completing the process permanently deletes:

  • Your sign-in credentials: email address and password.
  • Your profile: name, photo, plan, notification preferences, marketing consent and terms acceptance date.
  • The device identifiers used to send you notifications.
  • Your membership of every organisation, and your internal monthly usage counter.
  • Invitations you received, and invitations you sent that are still pending.

What is retained, and why

For the integrity of results already published and to meet legal obligations, the following is not deleted:

Votes already cast

Votes you have cast remain in their polls, because removing them would alter results that have already been published. Once your account and profile are gone, those votes can no longer be linked back to you through Votspot, but the technical record of the vote is retained: it may include an internal identifier of the account that cast it and, if the poll required location verification, the coordinates recorded at the moment of voting.

Polls and events you created

Polls and events you created, along with their results, remain under the organisation they belong to. The organisation continues to exist with its other administrators; if you were the owner, ownership is transferred to another administrator.

Billing and payments

Invoices, payments and associated tax data are retained by our payment processor (Stripe) for the periods required by accounting and tax law, regardless of account deletion.

Backups

We take automated database backups. Snapshots created before your deletion may still contain your data until they expire and are overwritten in the rotation cycle. They are not used to restore deleted accounts.

Technical logs

Crash logs and aggregated usage statistics are retained according to our infrastructure provider's retention periods. They contain no data that personally identifies you.

Your other data rights

Besides erasure, you can exercise your rights of access, rectification, portability, restriction and objection by writing to hello@votspot.com. Full details on how we process your data are in our privacy policy.
